Over the top?[]

Aberration, +2 to two stats, blindsense, and darkvision. Doesn't that throw it almost into LA +1 territory (I'd say definitely above Humans). Keep in mind the busted things that bing non-humanoid allows with alter self and the likes. --Andrew Arnott (talk, email) 13:46, September 8, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe, I was definitely worried about the +2 overall stats, blindsense I'm a little less worried about since that is their central gimmick. I was considering some sort of weakness to sonic energy to compensate, penalty to saves or actual vulnerability. My target balance point was dwarves, so higher on the LA 0 score but still LA 0. If you have any suggestions, or if you think the sonic thing works, do tell. -- Eiji Hyrule 20:15, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
Vulnerability to sonic, while probably a "flavor disability" most of the time, fits in pretty well with the race's theme. That said, it's not much of an actual vulnerability. Surgo 20:17, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
I'm somewhat disgusted by my grammar in the comment above. I was tired :-). +2 overall stats in itself is not overpowered. Having two stats with bonuses and one dump stat with a penalty is the issue. I mean sure, you don't want to create another underpowered Elan, but I think this is definitely more powerful than dwarves. A -1 penalty to saves might actually do the trick because it offsets the +2 con and +2 wis (only reflex is actually hurt). --Andrew Arnott (talk, email) 20:40, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
The save penalty is mechanically sound, but I have trouble justifying it in flavor, I don't know why they'd be weak with it. I had just thought though, peering at the image closer, those arms are mighty spindly. With the bonus to climb to offset, or maybe bump it up to +4 climb... I could add -2 Str to balance out the stats. Throw in sonic vulnerability as the kicker, and then do you think we'll be set? -- Eiji Hyrule 22:14, September 8, 2009 (UTC)
