You can use this weapon to make a ranged trip attack against an opponent. You can’t be tripped during your own trip attempt when using a set of bolas. When wielded by an iaijutsu master, the bolas whip can do lethal damage. Also, an iaijutsu master is able to modify his/her bolas to also act as a spring loaded grapple hook, when attached to a 25’ or less length of rope. The rope, when coiled around the arm of the master, gives a +1 to AC without incuring any armor check penalties, provided the length of rope does not exceed 25’ in length. When the bolas is thrown, while attached to the rope, it will automatically extend the hooks and coil around its target. If its target is a solid object, such as a wall, the iaijutsu master makes an attack roll (+10 to hit) to have the bolas penetrate the surface and have the hooks extend inside the wall (or on the other side of the wall, provided the wall is no more than 6” thick). With the flick of the wrist, the hooks will retract, allowing the bolas to be tugged free without effort.
