Ant lion, Monster Manual II (TSR, 1983

In the Dungeons & Dragons (WP) fantasy role-playing game, the ant lion is a type of giant carnivorous insect.

Publication history[]

The ant lion first appeared in the original first edition Monster Manual II (1983).[1]

The giant ant lion appeared in second edition Advanced Dungeons & Dragons in the The giant ant lion appeared in the Monstrous Compendium Volume Two (1989),[2] and is reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[3]

The giant ant lion appeared in the third edition in Sandstorm: Mastering the Perils of Fire and Sand (2005).

Description[]

An ant lion is a huge insect that preys on other giant insects. Ant lions dig tapering pits in areas of sand and gravel, which can line cave or lair entrances; creatures entering these traps slip down the loose sides to land at the bottom, where the ant lion lurks.
