In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the taer is a monstrous, primate-like creature. It resembles a muscular gorilla with a vertically elongated head, and gritty white fur (the creature is similar in appearance to a yeti). The taer absolutely despises company. It lives in cold mountain caves, far away from civilization, and kills anything that comes near it. It attacks first by throwing bone spears at intruders, and then, if the spear misses or does not kill the victim, it moves in to first pummel and then tear the victim apart. It uses the remains to make more bone spears. They also fight with crude wooden clubs and crudgels. The ultimate weapon of a Taer, though, is an enormous, two-handed greatclub, carved out of a single tree trunk. The weak will and lack of intelligence of taers leads them to be commonly enslaved by other, more intelligent evil creatures, such as tanar'ri, who use them as cheap, disposable henchmen and guardians.

Taers are neutral evil in alignment.

Taer names are often very close to orc and ogre names. Easy to say, short and simple is the key.
